Our walking sports sessions at Boroondara Sports Complex and Ashburton Pool and Recreation Centre offer opportunities for exercise, social interaction, and the promotion of physical and mental well-being. These programs provide inclusive environments for individuals to engage in physical activity and enjoy the benefits of an active lifestyle.

Walking Football at Boroondara Sports Complex

Term 1 dates: Monday 5 February –  Wednesday 27 March 2024
Term 2 dates: Monday 15 April –  Wednesday 5 June 2024
Term 3 dates: Monday 15 July –  Wednesday 4 September 2024
Term 4 dates: Monday 7 October –  Wednesday 27 November 2024

Mondays 10:00am – 11:00am

Walking Football is a modified version of the game suitable for all levels of ability and fitness. It is designed for people who are returning to sport after a break or those who have never played before. The program aims to provide participants with physical and mental health benefits, social contentedness, and promote the benefits of ongoing physical activity. Run in partnership with Active Ageing Australia, Football Victoria's Walking Football program offers a social, small-sided version of football that allows players of all ages and abilities to enjoy the game in a safe and fun environment. The program specifically caters to individuals aged over 55 years, but is open to people of all ages.

Walking Basketball at Boroondara Sports Complex

Term 3 dates: Monday 15 July –  Wednesday 4 September 2024

Walking Basketball is a slower and more social version of traditional basketball. It is suitable for participants of all ages, genders, and abilities, providing optimal health benefits to all who participate. The program is designed to decrease the risk factors associated with sedentary behaviour and offers a level playing field for everyone within a social, fun, and non-competitive environment. Whether you have never played basketball before or are skilled on the court, Walking Basketball welcomes all individuals to join and enjoy the game.

Walking Cricket at Ashburton Pool and Recreation Centre

The pilot program will run for six weeks on the following dates:

  • Monday 15, 22 and 29 October 2024
  • Tuesday 12, 19 and 26 November 2024

Indoor Walking Cricket is a fun, social, modified version of cricket that doesn’t involve running and uses modified equipment, played in a smaller, enclosed area. Walking cricket is a great activity to stay active – open to all ages and abilities!
