Our personal trainers have a passion for health and wellness.

At Boroondara Sports Complex we offer 30, 45 and 60 minute personal training sessions in a one-on-one, one-on-two or small group setting. Working with a trainer will boost your confidence in the gym, refine your technique and help you reach your fitness goals sooner.

Many of our trainers also have qualifications in special fields such as rehabilitation, pre and post-natal fitness, youth exercise and working with older adults.

  • What do personal training sessions involve?

    During your initial session, your personal trainer will:

    • assess your level of fitness;
    • understand what you want to achieve;
    • identify your preferred activities.

    With ongoing training, your personal trainer will:

    • develop an individualised program for you;
    • work with you to provide support and keep you motivated;
    • ensure you learn the correct form and technique;
    • monitor and measure your progress over time;
    • adjust your training program to keep you interested and challenged.

    Your personal trainer can track your results with our state-of-the-art Evolt360 Body Composition Scanner. This is a quick, non-invasive bioelectrical impedance measurement that can determine over 40 different metrics relating to body fat, lean muscle mass and visceral fat. This helps your trainer deliver targeted dietary, exercise and lifestyle advice.

    We recommend booking a scan with your personal trainer every four to six weeks.

  • Do you offer small group training sessions?
    Yes, we offer small group personal training with three to four participants per session. You're welcome to gather your friends together to create a small group for personal training, or if you'd prefer, we can place you in an existing group to match your fitness levels (if available).

    Angela Anita Over 12 months

    I had a full knee replacement and was having physio after the surgery when it was suggested I go to a gym. I found the physio I had was not that great at showing me how to use the equipment and the whole place was intimidating to me. I decided I needed to find a personal trainer who I could work with and still have a program specific to me.

    Anita just seemed to be the right person, I’d seen her at the gym and she seemed to know what she was doing. She listened to me and understood that is was more than just about recovering from surgery. It was about building long terms strength, stamina and confidence for me. She clearly explained what we could do, we set some goals and constantly reviewed these. Anita was clear that is wasn’t about how much weight I could lift compared to anyone else, the important thing was technique and using equipment properly so I could develop long term benefits.

    I never felt silly or too old to do the work and soon I was getting my own personal bests. Some sessions I was really down and struggling but a session with Anita with her conversations and the way she pushed me gently but with purpose meant I always left the gym feeling so much better physically and mentally.

    Jane Jason Velios Three years

    After Jason was so helpful when he was on duty in the gym I thought that he could make a real difference to my strength and overall well being. And after 3 years working with Jason I was proved correct.

    When asked to set goals I was frustratingly vague. I simply aimed to 'not be frail at 80 years old'. This was coming from someone who dreaded exercise, most of her life! Well, after weekly PT with Jason I can honestly say I am on my way to achieving my goals. Well almost...I did try to lift 75 Kgs on my 75th birthday but fell short by 2.5kg. Not bad though. My bone strength has remained in the healthy range, despite 5 years of medication that could have weakened my them. No wonder my family think Jason is a miracle worker. (So do I!).

    Jason is knowledgeable, kind, patient and methodical. His approach to fitness and especially strength training is evidence based and I have always felt safe pushing myself despite a 'dodgy hip'. I hope I am still training with Jason in 4 years time and I am not frail!
